BJP seeks election in HP under president rule

SHIMLA: The opposition BJP in Himachal Pradesh has demanded immediate dissolution of the assembly and conducting an 'impartial' polls in the state under president rule.

"In any case the Vidhan sabha will be dissolved after two months so it will be better if the assembly is dissolved immediately and impartial election in the state is conducted under President rule," BJP in-charge of HP Satya Pal Jain said.

Jain, also the BJP's national legal cell chief, however, said the party did not want to make it a 'condition'.

On the question of leadership in the state, he said "there is no confusion over the issue and the decision will be taken by the party at the right time".

The party will contest the elections on all the 68 seats alone.

Talking about BSP's increasing popularity in the hill state, he said, "BSP will harm Congress interests in HP and the BJP may get advantage of the Mayawati party in the polls," he added.

The BJP in-charge of HP said results of assembly elections in Himachal and Gujarat would be an important indicator of trends in national politics.

Jain identified corruption, price rise and unemployment as BJP's agendas for the Himachal Pradesh polls.

He said the party has called a meeting of state election committee on October 14 at Jwalamukhi in Kangra district to give final touch to its poll strategies.

Confident of BJP's victory, Jain said "a new BJP government will take oath in HP on the new year's day."
