PATNA: Senior BJP leader L K Advani on Wednesday said that the UPA coalition government at the Centre would not last its full term, resulting in mid-term elections early next year.

"A mid-term poll in 2008 is a certainty and there is a great probability of its taking place in the first half of next year," Advani said at the airport here.

Without referring to the standoff between the Congress and its Left allies on the Indo-US nuclear deal, the Opposition leader said "those who have created the situation for a snap poll themselves know that they would not fare well in the election.

"The biggest problem for them is to stave off electoral losses without causing any damage to their credibility," he said.

The BJP leader is here to attend a function to celebrate the 85th birthday of veteran party leader and former governor Kailashpati Mishra.
