JAIPUR: Ever imagined seeing dolphins in a desert? Now you may be able to, as a Muscat-based entrepreneur has shown interest in developing a theme-based dolphin park here.
Officials said Muscat-based Harish Jagtani has sent a proposal to this effect a few days back to the Bureau of Industrial Promotion (BIP) and sought 30,000 square metres of land for the project.
BIP, a nodal agency of the state government, was put into operation to expedite clearance of private sector projects.
Though officials refused to divulge more details, sources said Rs.500 million would be invested on the project that would boost tourism in the state.
As per the proposal, an artificial habitat would be developed for dolphins and the park would also have a restaurant and an entertainment facility.
The state government has already initiated discussions on the project and is now planning to put it up before the Board of Infrastructure Development and Investment Promotion, officials said.
The board is headed by the chief minister and is empowered to initiate decisions that are binding on all departments. The objective is to clear projects within a prescribed time limit.
Meanwhile, the state is going ahead with its plan to set up an international-standard convention centre and a golf course. The two projects are aimed at boosting tourism in the state and are likely to come up near here.
Once operational, the convention centre will be able to accommodate 4,000 people at a time.
About 280 acres of land has already been identified for the project in Dhamikala, about 27 km from here on the Jaipur-Ajmer expressway.
An official said the state government proposed to establish these projects on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis.
