J-K govt orders probe into 'irregularities' in IAY funds

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday ordered a probe into the alleged irregularities in distribution of funds under Indira Awas Yojna in Bandipora district.
    
The probe was ordered by Minister for Roads and Buildings Gulchan Singh Charak following complaints lodged by locals alleging misappropriation of IAY funds in Gurez.
    
Charak was on a two-day visit of Gurez area of Bandipora district.
    
Charak directed Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, to constitute a committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner to enquire into the matter within a week's time so that stern action could be taken against the erring officials.
    
The minister also directed the Chief Engineer, Roads and Buildings, Kashmir, to suspend the junior engineer and get explanation from executive engineer and assistant executive engineer for allegedly allowing use of sub-standard material for black-topping on the two lanes of Bishambernagar- Nowpora in interior city.
   
Charak on Saturday visited Srinagar and took stock of works.
