KOZHIKODE: The Youth Congress in Kerala on Thursday welcomed the Centre's decision to extend the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to all the districts in the country and thanked Rahul Gandhi for taking up the issue.

"Soon after he took over as AICC General Secretary, the first issue Rahul took up with the Centre was to extend the rural employment scheme to all the districts," Youth Congress state President T Siddique said.

Accusing the state Government of not initiating necessary steps to protect the unemployed in rural areas, he said the Youth Congress would go on agitation if it failed to implement the scheme effectively across the state.

The pro-Left DYFI was now claiming that the Centre had extended the scheme to all the districts only due to the protests undertaken by it, he said, adding the CPI(M)'s youth wing should come out with details on the various protests staged by it on the issue.
