NEW DELHI: In yet another case of road rage in the capital, a woman was seriously injured after being hit with an iron rod by a minibus driver on Wednesday.

The victim, Roshan Jehan, was returning from East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area with  husband Dr Abid after dropping off their son to school when the incident occured. The RTV bus usually used as a metro feeder or for ferrying passengers on short routes was coming from the wrong side and blocked their way.

“We were driving back home when we saw the speeding RTV dangerously moving towards us. To avoid a collision, I tried to drive past and dodge it. But our car was hit nonetheless,” said Abid.

When the driver got off the bus, Jehan told him to drive carefully. Enraged, he took out a thick iron rod from the bus and hit Jehan on the head. The driver and conductor of the bus also got into a scuffle with Abid, who suffered minor injuries, police said.

In another incident, 22-year-old Babu, a driver with a local court magistrate, was run over by a bike on Sept 30. On Sept 12, a woman was pulled out and beaten up after her car hit another in Vasant Vihar.

While shocking cases of road rage continue in the capital, police claim they have been keeping a vigil to prevent them. “Violations can be checked, but how do you check people from losing their tempers and brawling on roads,” said a senior police officer.
