MUZAFFARPUR: Dubbing the Nitish Kumar regime in Bihar as "anti-poor and anti-people", Railway minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Tuesday alleged that the state government had miserably failed to deliver the promised good governance.

"Nitish Kumar has done nothing for the people of the state. The NDA, which promised to ensure good governance, has been an abject failure. People of the state have been hoodwinked in the name of good governance," Prasad said, while addressing party workers to mobilise support for his proposed October 28 rally at Patna to highlight the alleged failures of the state government.

Taking credit for the visit of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to flood-hit areas of Bihar in August, the RJD chief said that the two leaders were "moved" at seeing the miseries of people reeling under devastating floods.

"But it is unfortunate that despite the Centre's assistance, the flood-affected people have not received the relief which they deserve," he claimed.

Prasad alleged that the Kumar regime witnessed the "flourishing of a kidnapping industry" and reports of violence continued to pour in the state.

He charged the state government with not properly using the funds being provided by the Centre under different welfare schemes for poor and unemployed youth.

Union minister for Rural Development, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, RJD MPs Raghunath Jha, Sitaram Yadav, MLAs and former state ministers Ramai Ram and Ramchandra Purve were present at the meeting.
