BANGALORE: The 20-month-old JDS-BJP coalition government headed by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy in Karnataka is on the verge of collapse in the wake of a volte-face by JDS on its power-sharing pact with the saffron party following a turnaround in the former's poll fortunes in the just-concluded local bodies' elections.

Buoyed by its unexpected but impressive show in Urban local bodies, in which the JDS made inroads into Congress bastions, the party now refuses to transfer power, setting fresh conditions which the BJP is not inclined to accept.

JDS supremo HD Deve Gowda, who holds the key in deciding the power transition, has told the BJP that he is in no mood to handover power to that party and needs some more time to discuss certain contentious issues.

Gowda, whose political moves are difficult to decipher, is now complaining about the 'anti-Gowda family' campaign by three BJP leaders of Bellary and the party leadership's failure to 'reign' them in.

At the brief meeting Gowda had with senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Sunday, the former Prime Minister lashed out at the BJP central leadership for not taking action against
Tourism Minister Sriramulu, suspended MLC, G Janardhana Reddy and his MP brother, G Karunakara Reddy, JDS sources said.

Sriramulu had filed a criminal complaint against Kumaraswamy, while Janardhana Reddy had levelled a Rs 150 crore bribery charge against the Chief Minister and members of Gowda's family, and Karunakara Reddy had supported the duo.

"In a such situation, how can you expect us to support this government," Gowda is understood to have told Sinha, according to the sources.
