LUCKNOW/ NEW DELHI: The arrest of the former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary, Akhand Pratap Singh in the disproportionate assets case by the CBI on Tuesday has once again brought to light the numerous cases of corruption involving top IAS officials in the state.

Sources tell DNA that in over 250 cases of corruption against IAS, IPS, PCS and PPS officials, the state government is yet to give its consent for prosecution. This is despite the fact that the inquiries have been completed, and the officials concerned have been found guilty of corruption.

“It would be a great service to the nation if the entire IAS cadre is abolished,” says social activist and journalist Jagdish Narain Shukla whose petition for severe action against corrupt IAS officers is pending before the Allahabad high court.

“The extent to which these officers have been indulging in corruption defies description… they are parasites eating into the system,” he added.

Akhand Pratap Singh allegedly funded his IIM-A graduate daughter to start an exotic flower business. The particular company and two other firms, run by his daughters, became major fronts to park much of his ill-gotten money.

On September 25, the CBI arrested Singh from his farmhouse in South Delhi and was produced in a city court. Singh’s assets include a flat at the upscale Basant Lok, three acres pf agricultural land in his native place, a flat in Vasant Vihar and a farmhouse near Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.
