MUMBAI: Shashank Manohar was on Thursday declared the president-elect of the Cricket Board ahead of its 78th AGM on Friday and will succeed Sharad Pawar next year.

Nagpur-based lawyer Manohar, one of the vice presidents of the BCCI headed currently by Pawar, is the only person to have sent in his nomination for the post of president-elect, BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said here today.

Pawar is set to quit as president ahead of the BCCI's AGM in September 2008 following his nomination as the president- elect of the International Cricket Council and will be succeeded by another person from Maharashtra - Vidarbha Cricket Association's Manohar.

The deadline for submission of nomination for becoming the 29th president of the apex cricket body of the country ended at 5 p m today and Manohar was the lone nominee for the post from Central Zone whose turn it was to head the BCCI.

The term of the new president would be for two years followed by another one-year term if he's elected again at the the end of the fixed term.

The BCCI had introduced the new concept of president- elect through an amendment in its constitution via a special annual general meeting earlier this year and the proposal was passed unanimously.

A major item on the agenda of tomorrow's AGM is the nomination of a new Chairman for the Bangalore-based National Cricket Academy in place of Ajay Shirke, who was appointed as the interim head when the board sacked Kapil Dev from the post after the former India captain joined the rebel Indian Cricket League.

No fireworks are expected at the AGM with no elections to the office bearers scheduled and the members would all be basking in the glow of the Indian team's triumph in the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa against all expectations.

A number of committees would be formed like on finance, marketing, and programmes and fixtures, but public interest would be minimal with the same set of selectors both for juniors and seniors to continue their term.

Chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar and junior panel chairman Sanjeev Sharma will continue at the helm till the BCCI's AGM next year.

The BCCI has posted a healthy profit of Rs 232 crore and has also enhanced the match fees of domestic players substantially in the wake of the threat from the Indian Cricket League.

The projected revenue for the next fiscal is also considerably more, and these factors plus the recent victories of the Indian squad in Ireland, England and T20 World Cup in South Africa are expected to make the discussions smooth.

Routine matters like the passing of accounts and the report of the secretary are some of the other items on the agenda.

An update on the proposed and highly lucrative Indian Premier (T20) League and Champions League is expected to be provided by its Vice-President and Marketing Committee head Lalit Modi, who is the brain behind the scheme which is seen as a counter to the Zee Telefilms-floated ICL.
