NEW DELHI: The prosecution in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case on thursday produced before a city court, telephone call details of co-accused Sri Bhagwan and claimed that he was in contact with prime accused R K Sharma, days before the murder of the journalist.

Arguing before Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Rajender Kumar Shastri, special public prosecutor S K Saxena said that the telephone records of Sri Bhagwan proved that he was known to Sharma, a suspended IPS officer, while alleging that he was a part of the conspiracy to kill Shivani.

Amidst opposition from the defence that the calls received on Sharma's telephone were not of Sri Bhagwan, the prosecution said that from the records available, it could be "reasonably inferred" that they had regular conversations.

The murder case of the Indian Express journalist on January 23, 1999 also includes four more persons -Pradeep Sharma, Satya Prakash, Ved Prakash and Ved alias Kalu-as accused.

The prosecution which is advancing its final arguments has stated the case to be highly dependent on circumstantial evidences which could be inferred from the telephonic conversations between the accused persons.

The arguments, which remained inconclusive, would resume on October three.

The court also refused to extend the interim bail of Sri Bhagwan, after the accused pleaded that his wife's operation, due on September 25, was postponed.

Sri Bhagwan, who was earlier granted a week's interim bail for his wife's operation, has been asked by the court to apply for extension of his interim bail after a date is fixed for his wife's operation.
