CHENNAI: AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa has said Rahul Gandhi's appointment as Congress General Secretary was not surprising, as it "believes in dynastic rule."

"It is an internal matter of the Congress. But, what has happened is not surprising. They don't seem to believe in democracy. They believe only in dynastic rule and in the rule of succession," she said in an interview.

The AIADMK supremo, who was at the forefront in bringing non-Congress and non-BJP parties under 'third front,' refused to confirm whether her party was still part of the UNPA.

"As of now, I am not saying anything. You can draw your own inference on the issue," she said.

She refused to reply to repeated questions on the AIADMK's continuance in the UNPA, saying "I will talk about the subject when the time is appropriate."

Asked whether the Left parties, which wanted to forge an alliance with the TDP and the Samajwadi Party, were behind the sidelining of the AIADMK in the UNPA, Jayalalithaa said "at this point of time, I don't want to answer any question. You can draw your own inference."
