Symbiosis to host corporate T20

The recent Twenty20 win has initiated the corporates in Pune to announce their own T20 tournament. Symbiosis Institute, a well-known name in the field of education, has taken the initiative in Pune.

The venues for the matches, to be held from September 27 to October 2, will be Deccan Gymkhana and Nehru Stadium. The tournament is titled Symbiosis Super Shield and the winning team will take home Rs5 lakh and the runner-up Rs2 lakh.

Heavy weight corporates like Indian Oil Corporation, Air India, Indian Airlines, Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd, Income Tax, Reliance Energy, Cagence Audio,Club of Maharashtra, will be the teams to watch. Local teams from Symbiosis International University, D Y patil group, Cadence Audio, FLAME and Vascon Engineering Ltd, which is also a sponsor, will also participate in the tournament.

Symbiosis will be supported by Pune District Cricket Association, which is affiliated to Maharashtra Cricket Association, in organising the tourney.

Stalwarts like Chandu Borde and Rajiv Shukla have agreed to grace the opening ceremony. Union Minister and president of the BCCI Sharad Pawar will be the chief guest for the closing ceremony.

Speaking to DNA, about the tourney, executive director of SIU, Dr Vidya Yerawdekar, said, “As Symbiosis has already proven excellence in education, we wanted to do so in sports as well. Bringing the corporates and the academica together on a common ground sounded a good idea and we chose cricket to do so.”
