THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Uday Samudra Leisure Resort at Kovalam near here is gearing up to make the tallest sandwich in the world in an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

Raja Gopal Iyer, the corporate director of the plush resort, told IANS that the present record for the tallest sandwich is held by O'Brien's Irish Sandwich Bar, which made a 42 feet tall sandwich on April 25, 2003.

"We will make a 50 feet tall sandwich which will be displayed at our resort on Oct 16, which is the World Food Day," said Iyer.

He said the monster sandwich would be made using 350 slices of bread, each slice measuring 2.5 feet x 2.5 feet.

"The stuffing would include 45 kilograms each of cucumber and tomatoes, 40 kg each of boneless chicken, sausage, ham, apple and mayonnaise sauce. Fish would be 25 kg, lettuce leaves 75 kg, onions 35 kg and 150 kg of butter," said Iyer.

He added that the sandwich would be put up for auction on Oct 16 and already a few people have shown interest in it.

"The sandwich would cost us Rs. 200,000. The auction money would be used for charity and the sandwich would be donated to a poor home here," added Iyer.
