CHENNAI: Even as DMK supporters attacked BJP offices and residences of its leaders in the city, opposing a diktat issued by former BJP MP Ramvilas Vedanti against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, the DMK patriarch on Sunday said there would be protests only to stress for implementation of the Sethusamudram project and not against the saffron party.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here, Karunanidhi said that if at all there would be any protests on Monday, "it will be for the implementation of the Sethusamudram project and not against the BJP".

The state, especially Chennai, witnessed attacks on the BJP state headquarters and Hindu Munnani office by DMK supporters against Vedanti's reported diktat, fixing a price for the DMK leader's head over his remarks on Lord Ram.

Karunanidhi has been strongly advocating for quick implementation of the Rs 2,500 crore project for the 'development of the state'.

However, Sangh parivar groups are opposed to the proposed destruction of Ramsethu, which they believe was constructed by Lord Ram.
