MUMBAI: Injured young leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has been ruled out of the seven-match ODI series against Australia starting September 29 in Bangalore.

"Chawla is out of the ODI series against Australia. But we will wait for some more time, may be till the team returns from South Africa, before naming a replacement," national selection panel chief Dilip Vengsarkar said.

Chawla hurt his ankle a few days ago during the Twenty20World Cup in South Africa and has been advised six weeks' rest.

Australia play the remaining six matches on their short tour of India at Kochi, Hyderabad, Mohali, Vadodara, Nagpur and Mumbai (Wankhede Stadium) and then end the tour with a Twenty20 tie against India at Mumbai's Cricket Club of India.
