COIMBATORE: Effigies of former BJP MP, Ramvilas Vedanti were burnt in various places while it were 'hanged' in two places in Pollachi, in the district on Sunday.

Protesting over the reported 'fatwa' issued by Vedanti against DMK Chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his remarks against Ram, DMK workers burnt effigies of Vedanti in five places, while some DPI workers carried out similar act near Red Cross building in the city.

The agitation in the city was led by former MP and senior DMK leader M Ramanathan.

Vedanti's effigies were also burnt at two places in Tirupur, one in Udumalpet and five places in Kottur in the rural limits, police said.

The party workers 'hanged' the effigies in two place in Pollachi town, about 40 KMs from here.

The workers also raised slogans against BJP, VHP and Sangh Parivar progesting the 'fatwa,' police added.
