CHENNAI: Hundreds of alleged DMK workers on Sunday ransacked the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit headquarters in the city while staging a demonstration against former BJP MP Ramvilas Vedanti's reported 'fatwa' against DMK patriarch and Chief Minister M Krunanidhi for his remarks against Lord Ram.

BJP office-bearers alleged that a large number of DMK workers barged into the office premises in the T.Nagar area around 11:am and smahsed the windowpanes and glass doors with clubs.

They also pelted stones and damaged vehicles parked inside the office complex and broke the flag mast of the party.

Earlier, a demonstration was held by the DMK workers in front of the office, "Kamalalyam".

State General Secretary Tamizhiasai Sounderajan told reporters that a number of party activists were injured in the attack besides she herself.

A small contingent of police posted near the office remained tightlipped about the incident.

The attack comes a day after senior DMK leader and state Electricity Minister N Veerasamy took strong exception to the reported 'fatwa' by Vedanti for beheading Karunanidhi and said he would hold black flag demonstration in front of BJP offices in the state if Vedanti did not withdraw his remarks.

Veerasamy had also asked the party volunteers to give a fitting answer to those who had fixed a price for their leader's life.
