NEW DELHI: The CBI continued to tighten the noose around former RAW joint secretary VK Singh and his book publisher Vivek Garg on Saturday as the agency raided the premises of the publishing house.

Singh was a major general in the signal division of the army and was deputed in the RAW as the joint secretary till 2004 when he retired. The high-flying sleuth has written four books so far, three on Indian Army and the fourth on RAW. Recently, the army had approached him to write another book for the organisation.

Though no arrests were made by the agency as senior officials informed, “We are scrutinising the seized documents and we would arrest them only if we find concrete evidence against the two people,” said a senior official who is part of the investigation.

During the raids on Saturday morning, sleuths seized the contract letter of the book signed between Singh and Garg, the CD containing the soft copy of the book and the original transcripts of the book.

The raids were carried out in the offices of Manas publication and the house of Garg. Interestingly, soon after the raids were carried out Singh and his associate Garg stopped talking to people and it was being suspected that they had gone into hiding.

Vivek Garg is owner of the publishing house, Manas Publications, and the organisation has concentrated on publishing books on national security. Apart from Singh, Maloy Krishna Dhar and former army general Padmanabhan are some its other authors.

The agency has been acting against Singh and his associates on charges of ‘illegally’ possessing confidential documents concerning national security. Though the sleuths have not been able to make any vital seizures yet but they have confiscated the computer, hard disk, keyboard, copies of the book and his passport.
