Sadhu held for rape of minors at ashram

JABALPUR: A sadhu was arrested on Saturday on the charge of rape of minors at an ashram in Kantangi in the district, police said.
      
The incident came to light when a minor who was admitted to Pragyanand Kanya Gurukul Ashram, a year ago, took ill and her relatives took her home and got her hospitalised.

She told her relatives that Sadhu Om Prakash Awasti alias Omanand Giri used to sexually assault her,Superintendent of Police (SP) Makrand Deoskar said.

The sadhu admitted during interrogation that he had raped the victim and another minor in the ashram, he said.

Meanwhile, Lok Janshakti party workers and Jain Samaj representatives on Saturday staged a demonstration to protest the incident.
