RIL discovers oil in Krishna deep-water basin

MUMBAI: Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) on Saturday said it has discovered oil in a deep-water block in Krishna Basin for the first time.

RIL had bagged the deep-water block KG-DWN-98/1 (KG-D4) under the first round of NELP bidding and holds 100 per cent participating interest in the block, which spans over 8,100 sq kms.

The well was located at a water depth of 565 meters and drilled to a target depth of 3,595 meters. During the Drill Stem Testing, the well flowed 596 barrels of oil per day, RIL said in a statement.

This discovery namely 'Dhirubhai-36' has been notified to the government and Directorate General of Hydrocarbon, the statement added.
