BBC to broadcast documentary on Tamil film industry

BBC Tamil radio service 'Tamilosai' will broadcast a 30-part documentary series on the history of Tamil film industry, which is set to celebrate its 75th anniversary in October 2007.

CHENNAI: BBC Tamil radio service 'Tamilosai' will broadcast a 30-part documentary series on the history of Tamil film industry, which is set to celebrate its 75th anniversary in October 2007.
    
The series 'Nenjam Marappadhillai' (The Mind Does Not Forget), to be broadcast from September 23, narrates the story of Tamil film industry by focusing the spotlight on its numerous doyens who had made a mark on the celluloid world, a BBC release said here Friday.
    
Tamilosai's former correspondent Sampath Kumar is the producer of the series.
    
"The Tamil film industry has been dominated and served by many a talented personality throughout its highly successful existence. Veteran directors, powerful producers, popular and charismatic actors, talented musicians and singers and comedy geniuses have left their imprint on the field," Kumar said.
    
"The series explores the contrubutions of these giants to the Tamil film world and through them track the history of the Tamil Talkie itself," he added.
    
It will feature interviews with film personalities, film historians, critics and experts.
