Govt committed mistake in Ram Setu affidavit: NCP

NEW DELHI: With the controversy on the 'Ram Setu' affidavit refusiung to die down, UPA coalition partner NCP today said the government had made a 'mistake' on the issue but was quick to 'rectify' it.
   
"The government made a mistake in filing that affidavit (in the Supreme Court) and it did the right thing by accepting its mistake and rectifying it," party spokesman D P Tripathi said.
    
He said the comment that there was no historical evidence for the existence of Lord Ram was 'uncalled' for and the government should be congratulated for rectifying its mistake.
    
"The issue should not be politicised and all parties including DMK should wait for the final decision of the Supreme Court on the issue," he said.
    
Refusing to comment on the demand for the resignation of Culture Minister Ambika Soni for the affidavit fiasco, he said it was an 'internal matter' of the Congress party.
    
The government had withdrawn part of its affidavit on Sethu Samudram project stating that there was no historical evidence for the existence of Lord Rama after there were widespread protest against it.
