“We came here to earn some money during the Ganpati festival”, said 30-year-old Parimal Londhe, who lost his wife Anita and daughter Sushmita, 7. Parimal, who too was injured in the accident, was recuperating at Bhagwati hospital. “What happened to Anita?” he was asking every hospital staff who came near him.

Parimal’s brother-in-law Ishwar Gaikwad who too lost his daughter Neha, 12, in the accident was unable to speak. The families had arrived from Wardha on Thursday. “We came here with the hope of making some quick buck during the festival, and were scheduled to return home on Monday”, was all he said. According to Parimal, they had returned to the city after three years desperate to make some money. “I had thought that if the entire family works for a few days, we would make some extra money for ourselves”, he said.

According to the doctors, Parimal was continuously having panic attacks. “I woke up in sudden pain and I realised that the wheel of the truck had grazed me. I started shouting, but the driver didn’t hear me. When I managed to stand up, I realised that my wife and my daughter had been crushed to death”, said Parimal. “The driver got down and realising what he had done, he fled with the truck.”
