NEW DELHI: Asserting that the government could no longer be trusted, the CPI on Tuesday said the Left and the UPA were at the "end of the journey" as the Congress had allegedly joined hands with BJP to get Parliament adjourned sine die ahead of schedule.

"Government is hobnobbing with the BJP ... Don't worry, we are at the end of the journey. We don't trust this government any more," party leader Gurudas Dasgupta said replying to a spate of questions at a press conference here.

He, however, refused to elaborate on his statement but said while the government wanted to avoid debates on major issues including the nuclear deal, the main Opposition party did not want to get exposed in its support to the 123 agreement.

"If they are not acting in tandem, why did they adjourn the House when major issues including the nuclear deal were slated for discussion," he said.

"While condemning the arm-twisting fascistic method of BJP, we deplore the action of the government to scuttle the Parliament session by four days. This is, in fact, surrender by the Congress to the blackmail of the BJP," Dasgupta said.

The Left leader, who was accompanied by party MPs D Raja and Sudhakar Reddy, also demanded punitive action against those MPs disrupting parliamentary proceedings and an amendment to the Constitution to give the electorate the "right to recall" an elected representative.
