NEW DELHI: Not satisfied with just splashing aftershave or applying moisturiser at home, every second Indian male living in metros now visits beauty salon at least once a month, a recent survey has revealed.

Being well-dressed is not enough for the Indian man, he also parses shelves in the departmental stores for beauty enhancing products, said AC Neilsen, a media and market research organisation in its survey.

Neilson queried 1,000 men, aged between 25 to 30 years, in four metros Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata to arrive at the changing trends.

Todays men are less inhibited when it comes to looking good and do indulge in image enhancing products and treatments, the survey said.

Three in five single men claim they try to look stylish at all times, according to the survey.

"The importance of the male grooming market in India is clear, with the market worth Rs 695 crore and growing at a rate of 11 per cent," it said.

In metros alone, it is growing at 12 per cent. The categories witnessing significant growth include creams, gels and deodorants.

"As if on cue, the markets have witnessed the launch of several beauty products targeting men only in recent years," the survey said.

"Whether it is increasing disposable incomes, or a greater exposure to the West, men are indulging in a daily beauty regime," said Vatsala Pant, associate director, Client Solutions, The Nielsen Company.

"Looking ahead, one can only speculate about the good times for marketers targeting the male form," Pant added.
