The next time you hear a stationary scooter accelerating loudly for a prolonged time, don’t ignore it! It might be a gang of thieves who are involved in stealing stereo systems from vehicles.

The Mumbai police have come across a unique modus operandi adopted by three persons from Vakola to steal music systems from cars. The police arrested Manoj Kurmi, 22, Dilip alias Chabbis Palkar, 45, and Anil alias Pacchis Parkar, 22, and have reportedly seized five car tape recorders, all of which were stolen from cars in and around Mahim, police said.

According to the police, the gang members would park their scooters near a car with costly stereo system installed inside. When one of the three men began accelerating one of the scooters to drown any other noise, the other two would break the car window with a stone wrapped with a wet cloth or towel.

Joe Gaikwad, senior inspector of Mahim police station, said, “Once the window is broken, they opened the door and easily removed the music systems installed inside the car. The accused targeted only targeted posh cars which would have costly music systems installed in them.”

The stolen car tapes were allegedly sold to a vendor in Nagpada. “We will soon nab the buyer of the music systems,” said Gaikwad.
