Sex-test failed athlete tries to end life

CHENNAI: S Santhi, who won a silver in the 800-metre race at the Asian Games last year, but was stripped of the honour after failing the gender test, attempted suicide on Wednesday.

Santhi was taken to a hospital after she began vomiting. She told the police that she had attempted to end her life by consuming a veterinary drug. It was not immediately known why Santhi attempted suicide. In the evening, her condition was declared stable .
