Heartbreak and stress may be the reasons, say docs

NEW DELHI: Geetanjali Nagpal, a former model, who was found begging in south Delhi's Hauz Khas area, was admitted to the VIMHANS hospital late on Monday night, where the doctors have provisionally diagnosed her with 'acute psychosis'. The Delhi Commission for Women obtained a reception order from the Metropolitan Magistrate, following which she was admitted to VIMHANS.

"Geetanjali was brought to the hospital at about 12.30 am on Monday night. She has been provisionally diagnosed with acute psychosis," said Jitendra Nagpal, head of psychiatry, VIMHANS.

Sources had claimed that drug addiction pushed her into this state. But doctors are yet to establish whether her psychotic condition was induced due to drug addiction. "Psychosis due to drug abuse has certain distinct characteristics but in Geetanjali's case those characteristics have not been seen. Her state may have been triggered due to some other reasons like a stress due to failure in her profession or a heart break," said a doctor.
