PARIS: The Renault Formula One team announced on Tuesday that Bernard Rey will succeed Alain Dassas as its new president.

Rey currently holds the position of senior vice president, Renault CEO office and earlier in his career, was responsible for Nissan's global motorsport activities.

"I am greatly looking forward to returning to the world of motorsport," said Rey, who takes over the reins on September 17.

"It is a highly-capable group led by Flavio Briatore, whose abilities are well-known. I look forward to enjoying many future successes together."

Dassas, who has been appointed chief financial officer of Nissan, had been Renault F1 president since April 2006 and oversaw the team's second successive double world championship victory last season.

"From a professional point of view, we have achieved the objective set when I assumed this role: to engineer a detailed, long-term commitment to Renault's Formula 1 future," said Dassas.

"The team is in good health, and well-placed to return to the front of the field next season."
