BANGALORE: A statewide red alert continues to be in place in Karnataka as a precautionary measure in the backdrop of the threat perception from terrorist groups, Home Minister MP Prakash said on Monday.

Keeping in mind the alert sounded by the Centre on earlier occasions, the state police have been asked to maintain constant vigil, he said.

Police have also been maintaining surveillance in various parts including movement of suspected elements, he said.

In the wake of the Centre's fresh alert to Chennai, a top police official refusing to be quoted said 'there is no new warning on terror threat in the state'.

However, police are on high alert to meet any eventuality.

"These things, if any, cannot be disclosed to the press and strategies sewn later. It is part our responsibility," the official said.

Karnataka has beefed up security measures in the aftermath of the recent Hyderabad blasts.
