SP wins Gunnaur, BSP Swar Tanda assembly seats

Samajwadi Party has won the Gunnaur assembly seat by defeating the BSP candidate while the BSP has wrested the Swar Tanda seat from the SP in the by-polls held.

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party has won the Gunnaur assembly seat by defeating the BSP candidate while the BSP has wrested the Swar Tanda seat from the SP in the by-polls held on Friday last.

Counting of votes at Farrukhabad assembly seat was in progress and the result is expected by the afternoon, election office sources here said.

By-polls were held in three assembly constituencies in Farrukhabad, Gannaur in Budaon and Swar Tanda in Rampur districts on last Friday.

SP candidate Pradeep Yadav defeated his nearest BSP rival Deepak Yadav by over 13,500 votes in Gunnaur, sources said.

Former cheif minster Mulayam Singh had won from Gunnaur in the recent assembly elections but vacated the seat as he had also won from Bharthana.

BSP candidate Kazim Ali Khan won the Swar Tanda assembly seat in Rampur district defeating his nearest BJP rival by over 49,000 votes.

The BSP wrests the seat from Samajwadi Party. Khan had won the seat in the recent assembly elections on SP ticket by a margin of 16,000 votes.

However, Khan resigned from SP and joined BSP.
