NEW DELHI: An Indian priest intending to travel to the US for work will have to meet certain conditions, like proving his qualifications, engagement in religious activities and details of income.

Certain conditions, laid down for issuance of 'R' visas to the priests, are additional to the requirements for any common person.

The organization employing a priest from India will have to certify that the applicant is a 'religious
Professional' and has a 'baccalaureate' degree (bachelors degree in art) or equivalent which should be required for entry into religious profession.
      
If the applicant is to work for an organization which is affiliated with a religious denomination, a description of the nature of the relationship between the two organizations will have to be furnished.

The applicant will also have to prove that immediately prior to the application for 'R' visa, he or she has been a member of the religious denomination (where the applicant intends to work) for two years.

Evidence of the religious organisation's assets and methods of operation, its papers of incorporation under applicable laws and certified and audited financial statements of the organization for the last three years will also have to be provided.

Proof of financial stability of the organization, where the priest intends to work, will also be required.

The applicant will also have to provide details about the arrangements for remuneration, including the amount and source of salary, other types of compensation such as food and housing.
