HYDERABAD: AICC president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday asserted that the country would not be cowed down by the 'mindless and inhuman activities' of the terrorists and other elements inimical to peace.

Addressing a massive public meeting here after launching several welfare programmes in Guntur district, Gandhi said she was pained about the August 25 twin blasts in the city, in which several innocent lives were lost.

She said terrorists and other elements, who did not want the country to be united, were resorting to such mindless and inhuman activities to tear the country apart.

She said everyone should stand united and work towards strengthening the nation to thwart the sinister plans of such people.

Praising Gandhi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said she wanted to come to the state on Sunday, a day after the blast, but he urged her not to come as it would give unnecessary publicity to the terrorists, whose sole aim was to get dubious attention.
