KOLKATA: The West Bengal government is currently in a Catch 22 situation after suggesting a residential permit for controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen.

While the state's Special Branch (SB) of Kolkata Police is leaving no stone unturned in making security arrangements for the beleaguered author, according to a tip off received by the intelligence wing of police, Bangladeshi fundamentalist groups are making their own arrangements for hiring a professional killer to finish off the author in Kolkata.

Any such eventuality will undoubtedly be a cause of diplomatic embarrassment for the state. New intelligence inputs have also revealed that Islamic groups within the state are preparing to take on the government for providing asylum to Taslima, who, according to them, has hurt Muslim sentiments.

Several groups under the umbrella organisation, Milli Ittehad Parishad, have started a socio-political campaign against the government .
