Accused deported  on a special flight

NEW DELHI: Amarendra Nath Ghosh, one of the most notorious bank frauds wanted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for as long as four years, was finally extradited from Germany on Monday.

A ‘special VVIP flight’ was sent for Ghosh because the accused had consumed a 10 cm knife in a court in 2003, after the German authorities allowed his extradition to India.

The CBI had to convert a special plane, normally used by the Prime Minister and top politicians, into an air ambulance and assure the German authorities that all medical help would be provided to Ghosh in case of any emergency.

“He had denied being operated which delayed the extradition by four years. We had also issued an Interpol red-corner notice against him,” said a senior CBI official.

Apart from duping several banks to the tune of Rs 27.69 crore between 1994 and 1995, Ghosh is also wanted in Dubai, Thailand, Malaysia and a few Arab countries.
