“The Regent Street Festival is a highlight of London’s calendar of summer events, this year made even more special as it celebrates the colour and excitement of modern India,” Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, said in a statement.
An annual event showcasing different cultures from all over the world, the Regent Street Festival will take place on September 2, 2007 and will include dance processions and musical displays along with puppetry and magic shows from India. It is being organised by the Regent Street Association and supported by the Indian Ministry of Tourism. “This year’s Indian-themed festival captures London’s growing relationship with India and provides an exploration of India’s culture and its contribution to London life,” Livingstone added.
The Regent Street Festival is organised by the Regent Street Association and is supported by the Indian Ministry of Tourism. The highlights include a horse and carriage done up in the traditional Indian marriage style which will offer rides to visitors. Indian artisans will display and sell handicraft items while a street bazaar will be peddling Indian spices, herbs and tea.
The Regent Street Festival is the concluding event at the ongoing three-month long ‘India Now’ season, which was aimed at celebrating Indian trends across business, art, film, theatre, and food.
