BANGALORE: In one of the biggest drug hauls here, five kilograms of heroin valued at Rs six crore were seized and two persons, including a state-level volleyball player from Madhya Pradesh, were arrested, police said on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid at an auto stand at Church Street here, nabbed the two persons and recovered the drug yesterday, City Police Commissioner N Achuta Rao told.

They were identified as Anjani Kumar Singh (28), a volleyball player from Bhopal and Eisanulla Khader Bakshi (52) from Pedava village in Jalawar district of Rajasthan.

The drug, which appeared to be of very high purity, was estimated to be worth Rs six crore in the international market, Rao said adding, the seized narcotics would be sent to laboratory for tests.

This is the second narcotic seizure in the last 15 days with the police seizing drugs worth Rs two crore from the Udyan Express train on August 10.

Following interrogation of the two suspects, the police team concluded that supplier of the drug is from Rajasthan.

"However, it is not clear if Bangalore was the transit point or final destination. The team is now trying to probe into the existence of drug route that passes through Bangalore or the presence of any drug cartel operating in and around the city", he said.

The probe would examine if the drugs were brought from abroad and also the origin of payment made for the purchase.

According to Rao, the police team would also try to investigate if drugs were meant for Bangalore, who was the local conduit and the distributors of the narcotics in the city and where the consignment was supposed to be delivered.

"All these angles will be probed. We will also closely be working with the Narcotics Contol Bureau and seeking inputs from them to solve this case", he said.

Replying to a question whether the city was witnessing any rave parties or events where drugs were circulated, Rao said that the police had been trying to collect information on the matter and ascertain whether drugs were being used in any "social event".

Police was also trying to probe into the possible links between the two recent drug seizures, he said.
