NEW DELHI: Government on Tuesday said it was confident of getting the Indo-US nuclear deal through, although marketing it to 'difficult and unreasonable customers' in Parliament was a hard task.

"We are very well poised. The deal will go through. I am sure we will be able to sell the product (the nuclear deal) to people, I can assure you... In the last few days, we have been marketing the nuclear deal, but the customers in Parliament are unreasonable and difficult to satisfy," Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal said.

He said the deal was a historic opportunity as it was not only about civil nuclear energy, but also 'about agriculture, biosciences and medicine. It is about sharing the technology of the developed nations, which was denied to us for 60 years. It is about new India.'

Criticising the opponents of the deal, Sibal said at the CII Marketing Summit, "You can't jeopardise the interest of a nation for customers (the Left allies and opposition) who want custom-made products."

"The problem in this country is that customers, specially in Parliament do not want to understand," Sibal added.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has reiterated several times over that the deal with US would bring benefits for India by way of energy security.

But the Left parties, whose support is crucial for the UPA government's survival, have insisted that the government should not go ahead with implementing the 123 agreement with the US and take follow up steps on safeguards with the IAEA and the NSG.
