JAMSHEDPUR: A 11-year old boy died after falling into a 20 feet flooded ditch at Bagunhatu village in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Sunday evening, belying hopes of locals that a miracle could happen to him like little 'Prince' in Kurukshetra.

Amit Tiwari, class VI student of a local school, was playing near his house when he tripped and fell into the ditch, already filled with rain water, police sources said.

A water tank was being built in the area and the spot was apparently left uncovered by the contractor despite incessant rains for the past few days, villagers alleged.

A large crowd gathered at the area as news spread  but all hopes of Amit's safe recovery were belied as his limp body was brought out by the rescue team, which immediately swung into action after being informed.

The contractor has been arrested and an FIR lodged, sources said.

Five-year old Prince was saved from a 60-ft hole by an army team bringing relief among people all over the country after he slipped into a hole at Kurukshetra in Haryana in 2006.
