NEW DELHI: Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister N D Tiwari was on Sunday appointed Governor of Andhra Pradesh as the government carried out a reshuffle of Governors of eight states.

Senior Congress leader Tiwari (82), who lost the Uttarakhand polls earlier this year, was appointed Governor of Andhra Pradesh in place of Rameshwar Thakur, who was holding additional charge of the state.

Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare replaces Thakur as Governor of Orissa, a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique said.

The 80-year-old Thakur, meanwhile, has been appointed as Governor of Karnataka till November 18, 2009, replacing T N Chaturvedi, who will complete his tenure on Monday.

The former Lt Governor of Delhi B L Joshi, who was shifted as Governor of Meghalaya in April this year, stands transferred again as Governor of Uttarakhand.

The 73-year-old Joshi takes over from Sudarshan Agarwal, former Secretary General of Rajya Sabha, who has been appointed as the new Governor of Sikkim in place of V Rama Rao.

Former Foreign Secretary S K Singh has been shifted as the new Governor of Rajasthan from Arunachal Pradesh. Governor of Haryana A R Kidwai was holding the dual charge of the state.

Governor of Nagaland K Sankaranarayanan will be discharging the functions of Governor of Arunachal Pradesh in addition to his own duties.
