SIRSA: Sirsa in Haryana may soon become India's first district where 100 per cent Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) would be used as a campaign to replace all incandescent bulbs is near completion.

A campaign launched by Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) employees to persuade people to replace power guzzler incandescent bulbs with energy efficient CFLs has completed its second round, a DHBVN spokesman said.

"Yesterday, 108 teams of DHBVN employees visited door to door at Sirsa, the district headquarters, for second time and sold 6,000 CFLs," he said, adding in the first round in Sirsa, two weeks ago, the officials sold 55,000 CFLs.

The DHBVN officials organised CFL camps and stalls in villages and towns and persuaded people to use CFLs instead of yellow bulbs to reduce their electricity consumption and minimise their bills.

Consumers in Sirsa have reduced their monthly bill by about Rs 9 crore after they started using CFLs.

Almost all government offices have completed the work of replacing traditional yellow bulbs with CFLs, he claimed.

Sirsa is likely to be declared a 100 per cent CFL district after the completion of the third round of the campaign. It will be a great achievement as Sirsa would be the first CFL district in the country, he said.
