Eleven passengers electrocuted; 40 critical

At least 11 people were killed and about 40 seriously injured after a high tension electricity wire fell on a passenger bus in Saharanpur district.

LUCKNOW: At least 11 people were killed and about 40 were seriously injured after a high tension electricity wire fell on a passenger bus near Deoband in Saharanpur district on Sunday.
 
The Uttarakhand roadways bus was on way to Roorkee from Deoband when the mishap occurred, police said here, adding the injured were admitted to the district hospital in Saharanpur where several of the passengers were stated to be critical.
 
"The bus was parked on the side of the road when it came into contact with 11,000 Kv line," Commissioner Saharanpur Division R P Shukla said.
 
The tyres of the bus burst with a deafening sound and it caught fire trapping the passengers inside, he said.  He said that it was a clear cut case of negligence' on
the part of the power officials and added that it would be investigated thoroughly and stern action would be taken against the guilty.
