LUCKNOW: Raids were conducted on Sunday in district jails across Uttar Pradesh to ensure that prison norms were being followed strictly and to prevent prisoners from running any illegal rackets.
 
The raids started this afternoon in all 62 district jails in the state, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Brijlal said here.
 
The raids were conducted to ensure that the jail manual was being followed strictly and criminals did not run any racket from the prison, Brijlal said.
 
In Meerut, a mobile phone, a CD player, 40 CDs, two phone chargers and Rs. 8,645 in cash were seized from a prisoner during a raid on the Chaudhary Kiran Singh district
jail, District Magistrate Neetishwar Kumar said.
 
During similar raids conducted last month, a number of mobile phones, SIM cards, knifes and other items were seized from prisoners and several jail officials were suspended by the state government.
