NEW DELHI: A raid by the CBI on a police station here resulted in all personnel at the premises, including an assistant commissioner of police, taking to their heels.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the CBI raided the Pashchim Vihar police station after arresting one of its personnel, Sub-Inspector Vipin Kumar, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a man he had threatened to implicate in a false case.

Kumar, who was remanded to CBI's custody till August 13 by a court here today, had arrested Adesh on Wednesday. Adesh's uncle was summoned to the police station where Kumar allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 for releasing his nephew, failing which he threatened to implicate other members of the family in the case, CBI said.

At the uncle's request, the amount was brought down to Rs 25,000. The uncle then informed the CBI, who laid a trap and arrested Kumar while he was allegedly receiving the money. Kumar was also suspended.

Immediately after his arrest, a CBI team went to the Pashchim Vihar police station to raid Kumar's desk.

On learning about the CBI raid, the entire staff of the station, including ACP Sanjeev Tomar, ran helter-skelter and returned only after Delhi Police's top brass intervened.

A search of Kumar's desk threw up some surprises for the CBI team -- it contained six illegal arms including a 9mm pistol and a .32 revolver, 150 gm of drugs, seven mobile phones and Rs 78,715 in cash, officials said.
