ISLAMABAD: Following the recent upsurge in suicide attacks targeting security forces, the Pakistani government has ordered the re-arresting of all "terrorists" who were released from various jails, a media report here said.

The Interior Ministry, in a 14-point notification issued to all provinces, has also directed the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to keep a record of prisoners in various jails, besides bio-metric database so that terrorism could be controlled, The News reported.

The provincial CID departments have been directed to keep a record of 'most wanted terrorists' and update the Red Book after every three months. Provinces have been told that Madrassas set up in private houses be vacated.

Authorities have also been asked to prepare three separate lists concerning suicide attacks. In the first list names of most wanted terrorists should be recorded; in the second, names of those who impart training to them and in the third, names of possible suicide attackers.

The notification says the provincial home departments and police must share any information of such kind with the National Crisis Management.

Also, top security officials have changed their vehicle number plates following intelligence reports indicating them as potential targets for terrorist elements in the coming weeks, the newspaper reported.

Besides senior police officers, the interior minister, his deputy minister, the secretary interior, the additional secretary, the head of National Crisis Management Cell and other top officials have turned their vehicle number plates to black from green and changed their registration numbers.

The ministry has plenty of registration numbers to be changed in case of any threat and discretionary powers have been exercised following security threats, the report said.

Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao, who recently survived one suicide blast, was provided a bulletproof jeep two months after the attack. Besides Sherpao, Engineer Amir Muqam and Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad have also been detailed bulletproof jeeps.

President Musharraf had given his pistol to Muqam to help him learn how to defend himself, the report said.

According to sources, there are a number of ministers who have stopped using flags on their cars to hide their identity. Besides this, security officials have asked a state minister and a National Assembly lawmaker to stop jogging in the premises of the Parliament Lodges fearing terrorist attack on them, it said.
