‘Katara trafficked 11 people’

Cops are probing the BJP MP’s liaison with special agency officials

NEW DELHI: The anti-extortion cell of Delhi Crime Branch, which is probing the human trafficking case registered against BJP Member of Parliament Babubhai Katara, conceded that at least 11 people, including women and children, may have been sent abroad using forged documents, as part of a human trafficking racket.

The human trafficking case involving Katara, an MP from Dahod in Gujarat, had come to light on April 18 when Katara was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International airport in while trying to smuggle Paramjeet Kaur (29) and Amarjeet alias Sunny (16) to Canada. The Delhi police have since then, arrested eight people in connection with the case. “Documents, including fake passports, have been recovered. It suggests that 11 people may have been sent abroad using forged documents.” said AS Cheema, DCP(crime). The police are also probing if the fake passports, allegedly used for trafficking, was in Katara's possession.
