NEW DELHI: The CBI on Saturday filed a status report on the extradition process of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi in the Bofors kickback case.
Filing the status report in the court of a Metropolitan Magistrate, the CBI counsel said the agency had filed an appeal against the acquittal of the businessman by a lower court in Argentina and the hearing has been fixed for mid-September.
The CBI had a major setback in June after its request for extradition of Quattrocchi for trial was turned down by an Argentine court.
Quattrocchi, 68, was detained in Argentina in February under a 1997 Interpol warrant and India formally requested that the country extradite him in March.
India had earlier failed in its efforts to have him extradited from Malaysia five years ago.
