PORT OF SPAIN: Former England captain Allan Lamb has said that lack of discipline was a key factor for the West Indies team's sustained poor performance and a tough coach was needed to discipline the players.

Describing the current bunch of players from the Caribbean as the "worst" ever, Lamb blasted them for behaving like "superstars" and "millionaires".

"I feel the problem with the players is that they think they are prima donnas. As they walk around they do not show much respect," said Lamb, who was in St George's, Grenada, this week to promote an international cricket festival here later this year.

Lamb, Wisden cricketer of the year in 1981, said the whole West Indian team, except Shivnarine Chanderpaul, was very ordinary.

"I think that there is only one guy there, Chanderpaul, who has held that side and fought. The rest come in playing shots like they are all millionaires, they don't need the money to play cricket anymore.

"There is some talent there but these guys walk around like they are all superstars and they are not. They are just ordinary players," said Lamb, a veteran of 79 Test matches, was quoted as saying in 'Jamaica Gleaner'.

Lamb, one of only six players to have batted on all five days of a Test match, said the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) must appoint a tough coach to discipline the players.

"There should be pride in playing for the West Indies. When they put on a West Indies sweater there should be pride.

"They need to get a very good coach and discipline these guys. They have to teach them respect and show them some pride in playing for the West Indies," he added.
