Officials of the Weights and Measures Department, Mumbai and Konkan Division raided seven outlets of Dr Batra Health Care in Mumbai, and seized goods worth Rs86,000, said Ankush Dhanvijay, controller, Weights and Measures. In all, the department has seized medicines and surgical equipment worth Rs16 lakh from various homeopathic, Unani and Ayurvedic companies for allegedly violating packaging rules.

Sudden raids were conducted at Indosis International in Goregaon, where surgical equipments worth Rs11 lakh were seized. Officials also seized goods worth Rs2.85 lakh from Bafna Surgical in Thane, MRK Health Care in Bhiwandi and other places.
The raids were carried out across the state, including Nagpur, Pune and Bhandara.  The seizures, carried out over the last two days, are part of the department’s statewide drive against firms flouting packaging norms. So far, 203 cases have been registered against companies.

Officials urged consumers to always check what is printed on the goods they purchase. Complaints can be made on the Mumbai Consumer Helpline number 22886666.
